The 31st/9th Ipswich Scout Group was formed following the amalgamation of the 9th Ipswich Sea Scout Group, originally formed in 1915, and the 31st Ipswich Scout Group, formed in 1973. The amalgamation in 2004 came about as a result in declining numbers of Scouts and Leaders at the 9th, who were long established at their headquarters on the lane between Foxhall Road and Copleston School. The 31st were thriving, with good numbers of leaders and Scouts, but were without a home of their own, meeting at St Andrews Church in Britannia Road. It was, therefore, a logical move for the two Groups to come together to form the strong Group we have today, meeting in their own premises.
The Group operates under the policies, organisation and rules as set down by the Scout Association, these are available for public viewing at www.scouts.org.uk
